EMU is proud to partner with ESRI, the world’s GIS software leader. Though this cooperative effort, EMU is able to provide members of the Michigan K-12 GIS community (teachers, students, parents, youth group organizers, administrators, schools and school districts) free GIS software and training to those who agree to the permitted uses listed in the Licensing Agreement. This state-of-the-art software will enable administrators, educators and students alike to access, visualize and analyze a wealth of information from and about their own communities and the world.
We recommend that teachers communice with a school administrator, other teachers and/or a school information technology coordinator prior to submitting a software request in order to avoid duplicate requests and to facilitate the most effective school use of the software as possible. We also highly encourage cultivating a school team of GIS-using educators rather than leaving the sole responsibility to a technology coordinator to distribute and/or provide technical support.
To process your software request, please read the Licensing Agreement and register. When you register, you will also be creating a User Login. This Login will let you shortcut the registration process if you need to come back to the site and request technical support.
After you register, you can download the desktop software directly from EMU or request a DVD directly from ESRI. There will be a link to do this on the Registration page. In addition to the desktop software, you may want to try ArcGIS Online first. You do not need a license and it runs within you computer's browser.
To make the desktop software run on your computer, you will need a Provisioning File. This file will be provided to you after we have validated your registration information. If you have registered previously and have lost your Provisioning File, you can request it to be sent to you again.
Another valuable benefit from registering as a K-12 GIS software user is access to ESRI’s Virtual Campus courses. You can request Virtual Campus course codes after we have validated your registration information. Here is a listing of the available Virtual Campus courses.
